"Sing to the Lord a new song" Ps 96:1

Music plays an important role in the worship life
of Christ Church. Whether you are 4 years old or 84 years old,
there’s a place for you in the choir.

The Cherub Choir
The Cherub Choir sings once a month for the
9:00
AM service (September – May) and rehearses on Wednesday
evenings from 5:30 –
6:15 PM.
This choir is for children 4 – 6 years old. Using a structured program
based on Kodaly and Orff methods, these young children learn beginning
elements of rhythm, pitch, notation, and most importantly – the fun of
singing with others. In addition to making music, the children learn
about simple elements of our faith tradition and how music is an
offering to God.

The
Canterbury
Choir
The Canterbury Choir is for children in grades 2 and up. Children must
be able to read to participate in this choir. Using the RSCM Voice for
Life system, the choristers learn about all aspects of music (theory,
history, vocal production, ear training, and faith formation). The
Canterbury Choir rehearses on Wednesday evenings from 6:15 –
7:45
PM
and sings each Sunday for the 9:00
AM
service (September – May). Thanks to generous donations to
Christ
Church’s Friends of Music, the choristers are able to
take advantage of a sophisticated computer lab training center located
just off the choir room.
Through the use of computer programs, the
choristers work at their own pace and skill level in developing
essential tools for reading music, including aural training. The
Canterbury Choir takes a spring trip every year to sing at another
church in another city, and often participates in other special services
throughout the year. This choir is open to members and non-members
alike. However, all choristers must be willing to commit to the
regularly scheduled rehearsals and Sunday mornings.

The Christ Church Choir
The Christ Church Choir is made up of nearly 50 adults who rehearse on
Thursday evenings from
8:00 –
10:00
PM
(September – May). The choir is a close-knit community of individuals
who, while sharing a wide range of spiritual beliefs, are committed to
the unified concept of offering their best musically. The choir includes
some paid professionals who help assure a core group of voices for the
necessary services. Members of the Christ Church Choir select the
9:00
and/or
11:15
AM
service to sing for primarily. Once a month, they are asked to sing for
both services. The repertoire of this ensemble ranges from Renaissance
polyphony, Anglican cathedral anthems, and modern American compositions.
Regardless of the style, the goal is to offer up well prepared and
respected musical selections. The Christ Church Choir sings together for
the service of Choral Evensong held on the first Sunday of each month
from October – June at
5:00
PM.
Individuals interested in singing with this group should schedule an
audition with Jason Abel, Director of Music.
